Joquita Cooper

LCMHCA

Joquita Cooper (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Associate who earned a master’s in clinical mental health counseling from East Carolina University. Jo has worked in healthcare for over a decade helping others navigate the complexities of the healthcare system, which has fueled her commitment for closing systemic gaps. Alongside her managerial role, Jo dedicated the past year to counseling couples and individuals, offering invaluable support and fostering meaningful connections.

Jo has a passion for providing support to those who have felt unheard, unseen, and forgotten in a world that often questions one’s value. Her upbringing made her keenly aware of the limited resources for mental health services available to people with limited means. She watched her community struggle with their mental health while banishing support due to stigma and services that were out of reach. These experiences shape Jo’s passion for creating safety and a soft place to land for her clients.

Jo holds her clients at the core of the therapeutic relationship. Taking a person-centered approach, she considers clients as the experts of their own lives, acknowledging the unique needs and worldviews each client holds. Jo integrates emotionally-focused therapy, reconnecting clients with buried emotions within themselves. She encourages clients to consider their inner narrative and motivations, and empowers them to view themselves from a position of growth and strength.

Jo works with adults of all ages offering individual and relationship counseling. She supports various presenting concerns including anxiety, grief, depression, life transitions, burnout, relationship concerns, and racial-cultural trauma. Jo is also passionate about serving BIPOC communities, minorities, and individuals with limited financial resources.
