Mark Stone
LCMHCA
Mark Stone (he/him/his) completed his master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at Walden University. Prior to entering the counseling field, Mark graduated from North Carolina State University with dual bachelor degrees in computer and electrical engineering. He completed an internship at a small technology firm before being recruited to work in big tech, working five years in corporate America for IBM and Toshiba. The mental and emotional strain led to a career shift, and with the support of his family and mental health therapists, he began the journey to becoming a counselor.
Mark grew up in a military family and spent most of his early life moving every two years. As a child, he dealt with a chronic illness that required ongoing medical care and living off base, leading to attending public schools where he was perpetually the “new kid.” Being bullied both as a child in school and as an adult in big tech, Mark has cultivated a respect for individuals trying to navigate authenticity in a colonized culture that perpetuates assimilation.
As a white, cisgender, straight man in an interracial marriage, Mark continues to explore how his privileged identities influence the spaces he occupies. He specializes in supporting individuals marginalized or stigmatized due to their identities or resistance to oppressive systems, as well as partners navigating interracial, polyamorous, cross-neurotype, and kink relationships. He collaboratively explores each person’s experience within the context of their environment, while supporting them in identifying systems of support. Mark partners with individuals to forge their own life path and to create spaces that most authentically reflect their interconnected identities.
Mark works with adults from a wide variety of backgrounds. Being AuDHD himself (autistic and ADHD), Mark has a special passion for supporting clients with neurodivergence, anxiety, depression, identity exploration, interracial partnerships, and life transitions. He is trained in S.A.F.E. EMDR, and utilizes somatic and attachment principles to address unprocessed trauma. Mark is LQBTQIA+-affirming and welcomes clients exploring their identities on their own terms, without the subjugation often encountered in our society.
